How to keep your current benefit

If you started using the Vitality gym benefit before 2010, there are no changes to your gym benefit. This means that to keep your benefit, you must visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period. At the end of every month we will count back 12 months to find out the total number of gym visits you had during that period. Only one gym visit a day will be counted towards this total visits requirement. Remember to always take your gym card to the gym with you. Your visits will be recorded at the turnstile. If the turnstile is not working, ask to sign the manual register at the gym reception.

What happens if you don’t visit the gym regularly?

If you don’t visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, your gym benefit will be cancelled. You can start again, but new rules will apply. Under these rules you will receive a discount on the standard monthly gym fees and will have to make 36 visits to the gym in a rolling 12-month period to keep this discount.

To restart your gym membership, you will have to pay a once-off activation fee of R1 225 and you will get a discount of up to 80% off the monthly standard gym fees. You will also need to go to the gym 36 times in a rolling 12-month period.

How to keep your current benefit

To keep the full benefit, you must visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period. At the end of the first year that you joined the Vitality benefit at Virgin Active, we count your visits to check if you’ve trained at least 36 times in that 12-month period. From then on, at the end of every month we count back 12 months to find out what your total number of gym visits was during that period. Only one gym visit a day will be counted towards this total.

What happens if you don’t visit the gym regularly?

If you do not visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, you will still have access to the gym but your discount will reduce to 50% off the standard gym fees every month. You will pay the increased fee until you have reached the required 36 visits in a rolling 12-month period again.

How to earn Vitality points

You, your spouse and dependants 16 years and older on your policy each earn 150 points for every workout at Virgin Active. You get points for only one visit each per day. All Vitality points you earn at the gym go towards the fitness points category.

The most Vitality fitness points each adult can earn in a year is 15 000 points.

Points will only be awarded for one fitness activity a day. If you complete two fitness activities in one day, then the higher points between the two will be awarded.

To check your points go to the Vitality Points Monitor. It will show you how many times you have visited the gym in the previous 12 months. It will also show you how many Vitality points you have earned from visiting the gym and from other health assessments that earn you points. Vitality points take two to four weeks to show on your Vitality Points Monitor on the website.
